Meet the Team

Together we bring a comprehensive construction and engineering experience, each having held directorship, management and technical roles spanning construction, fitout, facilities management and engineering.

Our different expertise covers the strategic, operational, commercial and financial requirements of running a successful fitout, construction, engineering services and property development business.

We are a hands-on team that aims to work with a limited number of customers and professional teams to ensure that we deliver each project in a personal and professional manner.

We believe in a team approach to ensuring we fully understand the specifics of what our customers' unique needs are.

We believe in investing in our people and are committed to a collaborative working environment, allowing the Colorado Group to cherry-pick the best people to join our team.

  • Our labour retention remains at 100% as we have built a core team of handpicked tradesmen.
  • All of our employees either have or are in the process of achieving CSCS.
  • All site employees receive a minimum 1-day H&S training course and any other job-essential training such as first aid, PASMA, IPAF, etc.
  • All our site managers have the CITB 5-day SMSTS accreditation.

Ian Bownes

Ian is a founding director of Colorado Group and is also the CEO of Colorado's sister company, Nu-Phalt Group.
Prior to the formation of the Colorado Group, Ian was the Managing Director of the projects division of a major UK-wide facilities management business, responsible for £80M of turnover spanning construction, M&E, refrigeration, security and retail services. Ian was also a main board director of a UK 'top 10' fitout and construction company, leading the transformation of the organisation from a loss-making £5M turnover to a profitable £20M construction and fitout business. Ian's early career included 10 years with John Mowlem & Co where he held roles as Contracts and Project Manager.

Gary Gibson

Gary, a founding director of Colorado Group, was previously an Associate Director of Dew Construction's Scottish construction and engineering business for 11 years and in that time he was responsible for growing the business from a standing start to an annual turnover of over £30M. Gary had ultimate responsibility for a number of landmark projects such as the new European ferry terminal in Rosyth, a £12M contract constructed in just 14 weeks. His early career included roles as a Contracts Manager working for a diverse range of specialist construction businesses.

David McGinigal

David is the Operations Director for the Colorado construction and engineering business.
Before joining the Colorado Group he was Senior Contracts Manager with a major construction and engineering company responsible for multi-site operations including projects at Rutherglen Park for Vico and for Glen Turner Distillery in Livingston. David also spent ten years as Contracts Manager for Dew Construction in Scotland, responsible for civil engineering and building projects and has extensive experience as a civil engineering site manager and senior engineer managing a range of diverse projects across Scotland.

David Hendren

David is one of the founding directors of Colorado Group and is responsible for the business' commercial activities.
David previously held roles as Commercial Manager with a major utilities business establishing a new gas connections unit, and headed the commercial aspects of a UK-wide multi-disciplined construction and engineering operation. He has extensive experience with fitout operations having held a Senior Quantity Surveyor position in a construction and fitout organisation based in Scotland/East region. In his early career, David held commercial and management roles with the specialist fitout contractor Havelock Europa and commenced his career as a Quantity Surveyor with Miller Construction working on large industrial and commercial building projects throughout Scotland.

Richard Wakeman

Richard is the Health and Safety Manager for Colorado Group and for Nu-Phalt Group including the specialist road repair system and industrial and commercial burner manufacturing unit. Richard was previously Regional Health and Safety Advisor for a facilities management business providing health and safety support to multi-disciplined teams covering construction, M&E, engineering, refrigeration, retail services and security systems. His early experience included roles as a Projects Manager and Compliance Officer for RW Gregory & Partners, a national building services consulting engineering practice.
